- Extract from the Dorset County Chronicle - 28 October 1915, page 12
Death of another old resident - Swanage has just lost another of its old and highly respected inhabitants, Mrs Maria Cox, wife of Mr George Cox, at the good old age of 84, a day or so before she had completed 66 years of wedded life. Much sympathy is felt with the bereaved husband at his loss after such a prolonged and happy partnership, as well as the somewhat numerous family of children, of whom there were no less than four sons and five daughters. Deceased had been an invalid some six months before the end came. The family is held in general esteem in the town, and especially by the members of the Wesleyan Church, with which denomination both husband and wife actively associated themselves, the former being caretaker and the oldest surviving scholar of the Sunday School. The funeral took place on Friday amidst every mark of respect on the part of many who had known the family for years. A large number of relatives and friends followed her to her last resting place, and many beautiful tokens of respect were sent by sorrowing friends. - Extracts from the Swanage and Wareham Guardian - Saturday 23 October 1915, page 8
