Police Try To Track Down Relatives
May 4, 2001 15:31: THE police missing persons unit has been unable to trace relatives of seven people found dead in their homes this year.
The cases reported since January, all follow similar circumstances of people not being seen for a few days and the police have been called.
So far, investigations have not been able to trace relatives of Anthoney Roffey, aged 64, of Balloch Road, Catford, who was found on January 4; Doris Bell, aged 80, of Howson Road, Brockley whose body was discovered on January 14; and Leonard Eastabrook, aged 75, of Duncombe Hill, Forest Hill, who was found on February 9.
There are problems, too, in tracing relatives of William Walters, 71, of Fern Court, Drakefell Road, New Cross, discovered on February 28; David Hall, 54, of Browne House, in Deptford Church Street, Deptford, whose body was found on April 14; and Dennis Leavold, 71, of Sunderland Road, Forest Hill, found on April 20.
Another dead person, fifty-eight-year-old Norman Richard, was found in a hostel, in Canadian Avenue, Catford, on April 22, but is believed to have come from Florence Terrace, New Cross.
PC Pete Parry said: "We go to some trouble to find next of kin.
"So far this year there have been 13 cases where relatives have not been traced immediately and we have solved six."
Anyone with information about these people should call Lewisham borough missing persons unit on 020 8284 8465 or their nearest police station.
